”Work, patience and craftsmanship are the key ingredients if you are going to brew a craft beer.” With this motto Arno Kooy and Fer Kok began brewery De Prael back in 2002. It originated from the idea to run a brewery with people that have a ‘distance to the labor market’. Subsequently brewery De Prael stands for much more than just beer. One employee is working seven days, another seven minutes, but everyone is a fully respectyed and integral part of the same big family.
The brewery, the shop and one of the tasting rooms are located in a former auction house and cartwrights maker at the Oudezijdsvoorburgwal in Amsterdam. As early as at the beginningof the 14th century there was a beer quay and beer was imported by boat from Germany. Later on the first breweries of Amsterdam started at this same location. This site fits perfectly with de Prael’s traditional way of brewing, which now can be called unique.
